Seychelles’ Coach: Bad Officiating Affected My Team

Seychelles’ head coach, Gavin Jeanne has insinuated that his side lost out in the race for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to poor officiating.

Speaking on arrival in Abuja, ahead of Friday’s dead rubber clash with Nigeria’s Super Eagles at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Jeanne said there would have been more to play for had his side not been out of the race already, while their hosts have already booked a ticket.

The Pirates’ gaffer believes his side were unfairly treated in most of their matches, but did not state categorically if it was the case when they lost 3-0 to Nigeria in thei first leg of their fixture with the Eagles at home.

He, however, decried bad officiating in top grade matches across Africa, as he recounted that only last weekend his side faced a similar scenario in another defeat by Ethiopia’s under-23 team.

Seychelles, who camped in Ethiopia in preparation for Friday’s match in Asaba, lost 3-0 to their hosts after going down 1-0 to the same opponents a few days earlier.

Speaking on arrival on Tuesday aboard Ethiopia Airlines, Jeanne said he can pick positives from his side’s AFCON 2019 qualification campaign and hopes for a better outing from Friday’s formality game in Asaba.

He declared: “We played a bit better but it was not a fair game as two of our opponents’ goals should never have stood.

“The official was biased and we had two players sent off. We also struggled with the altitude.”
