Dennerby Explains Appointment Of Two New Assistants

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has defended his request for the inclusion of two new foreign assistants in his technical crew, as he believes the additions will boost the squad’s chances of doing well at the forthcoming at the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Dennerby spoke from Spain, following a confirmation by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of their approval for Per Harlsson to step in as Falcons’ conditioning coach, while Matti Demegard will work as video analyst.

A press release by the NFF information department revealed that both aides will join the nine time African champions for the Female Mundial, with a view towards their presence felt before and during the event.

The NFF further disclosed that both were recommended by Dennerby, whose team will now will play a top division club from Iceland, UMF Selfoss, on Friday and then face Canada’s national team on Monday.

After both build-up matches in Murcia, Spain, the Falcons are scheduled to participate in the WAFU B Nations Cup, then head out to Austria for their final camping programme at Avita Resort.

Dennerby said it is important to have good build-up matches and quality training camps, as France 2019 draws nearer, while also enthusing that the team will get better with the different steps ahead of the Mundial.

The Swedish tactician said at the Falcons’ hotel in San Pedro del Pinatar, Thalasia, Spain that it is crucial to put the best form of preparations in place for the team, adding that the two new assistants will complement his plans.

Dennerby said: “The analyst collects clips, processes them and players can come after the game to see the different situations they were into.

“We also do it on team base so that we can see defending line, midfield, build up play, finishing and so on.

“This is very important for the education of the players and technical understanding.

“Then we have the conditioning coach, who is building the endurance of players as well as speed muscles.

“His role is to help our players to get quicker and better stamina. He is also a really important part of the team.

“I think it is also important that most of the players are back in their various clubs and playing games.

“It is extremely important to have good camps and have the team together. Both the individuals and team will keep improving.”
