Arsenal of England youth team player, Xavier Amaechi was the star of the night on Monday, with a goal and performance that beclouded the rising status of his more popular teammate, Bukayo Saka.
Although Saka got his name on an assist, it was Amaechi’s exploits and goal that hogged all headlines, as The Gunners’ youngsters extended their unbeaten streak to seven in the English Premier League 2.
Amaechi opened the floodgate of goals for Arsenal in a 5-0 demolition of Derby County, as the dazzling winger put up a performance that saw him end a recent goal drought with a sizzling finish.
The 18-year-old Amaechi scored last in an FA Youth Cup game in January and went six games without scoring for the Arsenal kids, only to shine on an evening the team’s Nigerian-born goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo got a second successive clean sheet at Meadow Park.
Interestingly, it was Saka who first showed signs of things to come, while keeping true to his rising stock, as he went past his marker on the flanks, before pulling out for Tyreece John-Jules to score in the 26th minute.
Amaechi then stole the show shortly after the hour mark, making it 4-0 for Freddie Ljungberg’s side, with a clinical finish from a tight angle, as the youngster netted his fourth goal in 12 games for Arsenal’s U23s.
