Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets’ coach, Manu Garba is set to drop another trio of players, as the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning gaffer seeks to cut his team to 21.
So soon after he was forced to eject five key players due to failed scales in the mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) scans, Garba is set to drop three more players ahead of the African U-17 Cup of Nations.
The Eaglets are billed to fly out to Dar-Es-Salaam on Wednesday, as they tango the host nation, Tanzania in the 2019 U17 AFCON opening match this Sunday, and Garba needs to remove three more players in order to arrive at his final squad list for the championship.
Among the lads Garba will bank on for glory at Tanzania 2019 is Chelsea of England youth team starlet, Adrian Akande, who will don Nigeria’s iconic NO.10 jersey at the cadet championship, which begins on Sunday.
Garba and his assistant, Nduka Ugbade, who captained the maiden FIFA U-16 World Cup-winning Eaglets at China ’85, are pleased with Akande’s performances in training and are looking up to him as the ace playmaker to make things happen for the squad in Tanzania.
Garba announced the squad numbers at a teem meeting on Monday and Akande was among those confirmed by the coaches, while a handful of others wait until the last three players are dropped before Wednesday’s departure to the East African nation.
