Secretary-general of Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) sports department, Samuel Onikeku has declared that the agency’s female team were able to start well at the 2019 Africa Women’s Volleyball Clubs Championship in Cairo, Egypt because they are well motivated and properly prepared.
The Customs’ team started their campaign by beating USFA of Burkina Faso 3-0 in the opening match, much to the delight of Onikeku, who added that the ladies were also properly prepared for the competition.
Onikeku added that it was thrilling to see the combination of captain, Priscilla Agera, Tochi Nnoruga, Ladi Jalmet and Aisha Umar too strong for USFA, who fell 25-3 in the first set.
Though the customs girls let their guards down in the second set, they still won 25-9, but USFA reduced the large margins in the third set, which they lost 25-17.
Onikeku said afterwards the Nigerian the girls played at a different level than they had ever done, as they were more coordinated and showed a deep level of on-court discipline.
The NCS sports scribe added: “This is a good start for Nigeria Customs female volleyball team..
“The girls are playing at a different (and high) level because they are well motivated.
“We played numerous friendlies while in camp and this helped us a lot. It has translated to more coordination and court discipline.”
