Middlesbrough of England midfielder, John Mikel Obi is relishing his second outing as skipper of the side, as he admitted after leading his side to beat Hull City 1-0 that it is nice to captain a great team.
While also stating that he is excited to skipper Middlesbrough’s array of ‘great players’ once again, the Super Eagles’ captain added that it was an extra gain to earn victory at Riverside Stadium and a second successive win in the English Championship.
Mikel, who was also captain of his immediate past club, Tianjin Teda of China, admitted that it was a relief to see his side pull the chestnut out of the fire only 12 minutes from time, with the visitors probing in search of an equaliser, which would have spoiled his fun.
At that point, Mikel was at the right place at the right time to clear off the line after a scramble from a corner and, while he admitted that he enjoyed captaining Boro in their last two matches, the first of which was against Bolton Wanderers last weekend, the former Chelsea star said it is even better seeing the team move up on the second-tier league table.
“It is always nice to be the captain, to lead the team. Great team, great players, great lads too, so it is always nice.
“It is always positive. I am really honored to have captained the team in the last two games.
“Hopefully, we can keep winning games. That is the most important thing,” Mikel submitted.
