Former Super Eagles defender, Celestine Babayaro is set to dust off his boots next month, and line out for legends of his former club, Chelsea of England, in an exhibition match against Real Madrid’s icons.
The match between ex-players of both giant clubs is billed to hold June 23 at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, and Babayaro is one of the former Chelsea players that have already been invited for the game.
The Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold medalist, who first starred with RSC Anderlecht of Belgium and later Newcastle United of England, is among 11 defenders listed by The Blues for the game, alongside Wayne Bridge, Graeme Le Saux and Jon Harley.
It would be just over a year since ‘Cele’ last played a similar match for The Blues, as he was in the Chelsea Legends’ squad that lost 4-1 to Inter Milan Forever in May 2018.
Babayaro, who also played another exhibition match against African All Stars in September, was Chelsea’s most expensive teenage signing ever when he joined the club from Anderlecht in 1997 for £2.25m.
He played almost 200 matches for Chelsea, for which he won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
