Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu (Papilo) has gained massive royal support from Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who has thrown his weight behinds the ex-international’s heart foundation.
Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF) only recently took another set of kids for surgeries in Israel, as the former national team star keeps putting his efforts into helping Nigerian babies and future leaders to overcome various forms of cardiovascular defects.
‘Papilo’ now has another huge shoulder to lean on and run to in times of need, as former Eagles’ media officer, Colin Udoh disclosed that the Ooni of Ife has joined the bandwagon of able patrons for the foundation.
Udoho took to social media with words and photographs to highlight an event, during which Kanu officially presented the KHF project to the Oba and added a replicate national team jersey as part of his courtesy gifts.
Udoh, who is now a sports pundits on cable television, stated: “Ooni of Ife signs up with the Kanu Heart Foundation for an undisclosed fee.
“(He is now) expected to lead the offensive to save more lives through KHF @kingkanu4 @kanuheartf.”
Udoh disclosed further that Ogunwusi did not hesitate to be a grand patron of the foundation, as he recalled vividly how the two-time African Footballer of The Year has touched many hearts in 18 years.
He also revealed that the Ooni promised to play a key role in support the foundation, as he recounted that the former Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion star also brought joy to Nigeria during his active days as a footballer.
While receiving Kanu at his palace in Ile Ife, Osun State, the royal father observed that the ex-player has extended love to many poor people who would have died with their heart ailments, thereby being able to touch God’s heart by showing genuine love to humanity.
Ogunwusi said he followed the lifestyle of Kanu during his playing days and after retirement, during which he has remained baffled with the star’s ability to give back to society, through support for less privileged people with support from his foundation.
Oba Ogunwusi added: “God is love and anyone who is able to show love to humanity has touched God.
“That is the purpose of God bestowing wealth to people in order to help the poor.”
In his response, Kanu Heart Foundation coordinator, Pastor Onyebuchi Abia appreciated the humility and show of love exhibited by the Oba in welcoming him and his entourage to his palace.
While pledging that Kanu and he will remain grateful forever, Onyebuchi further remarked that they were motivated to choose the Oba as grand patron because of his open mindedness and spirit of oneness.
