Former Super Eagles’ captain, Nwankwo Kanu has stated delight with his ability to score one of the goals recorded in the much-talked about send-forth match for outgoing Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode.
‘Papilo’ was on song on Saturday, in the match played at Agege Stadium, Lagos, with two other former Eagles stars, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins and Garba Lawal also hitting target, alongside ace comedian, A.Y (Ayodeji Richard Makun) in a 4-4 draw against African Legends.
Aside Kanu, Matins and Lawal, other ex-internationals that feature for Nigerian All Stars in ‘The Match’ were Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Emmanuel Amunike, Victor Ikpeba and Finidi George, as they all dusted their boots in honour of Ambode, who leaves office on May 29.
The Nigerian side was coached by former Eagles technical adviser, Jo Bonfrere, while their opponents were handled by Japan ’93 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Eaglets’ winning coach, Fanny Amun.
The African Legends had Peterside Idah, Didier Zokora, Khalilou Fadiga, Christian Karembeu, Titi Camara, El Hadji Diouf, Stephen Appiah, Keida Keita and Diomansy Kamara.
Their goals were scored by Keita, Camara, Fadiga and Diouf, who netted a penalty, on an evening many side attractions held sway, including pop-music outings by 2Baba (Innocent ‘Tuface’ Idibia) and Small Doctor.
The day’s activities were also aired live Kanu’s new television station, with special mention given their boss on his performance and goal.
The Nigerian legend’s channel, Kanu Sports TV posted on social media: “Agege Stadium stand still as Kanu, Diouf, Obafemi Martins, AY plays As Super Eagles Legends in a novelty match.”
