Arsenal of England youth team player, Xavier Amaechi is heading for a contract extension with The Gunners, based on his performances and contributions during the season.
Although he is yet to get the same attention and number of first team spots like fellow-Nigerian-born winger, Bukayo Saka, Amaechi is the next lad to talk about at Emirates Stadium and the clubs top brass are now looking to extend the 18-year-old lad’s contract.
According to goal.com, amid interest from Bayern Munich of Germany, Arsenal are eager to tie down Amaechi and fellow-teenage sensation, Tyreece John-Jules.
Amaechi penned his first professional contract with The Gunners in January 2018, but the deal is to expire in 2020, hence the London club’s move to quickly hook the winger, who was reportedly monitored by at least 14 German Bundesliga clubs in April.
Back then, Amaechi was among the shinning lights in Arsenal U23 team’s 2-2 draw against Swansea City, during which he equally drew attention from Munich, who now want to sign him this summer, ahead of a horde of Spanish La Liga that also excited with his pace and skills.
While Saka cannot pen a fresh contract until he turns 18 in September, Amaechi is close to entering the final year of his contract and is in talks over penning a new deal at Emirates Stadium in the coming days.
Amaechi, whose playing style is said to be akin to that of first team sensation, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, was selected to team of the competition at the 2018 European U17 Championship in England.
Incidentally, Saka and Amaechi are in contention for Arsenal’s squad for next Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final against their EPL London rivals, Chelsea, as they both trained with the first team last week.
