Super Eagles Must Work For AFCON Success – Adepoju

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju (aka Headmaster) has charged the current set of players in Nigeria’s national team to ensure they put in a lot of effort, in order to ensure they emerge champions at this year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Adepoju, who was a member of Nigeria’s winning team at Tunisia ’94 AFCON admitted that the continental soccer showpiece is a major championship that other teams will also love to win, but stressed that the Eagles could become four-time champions through hard work.

The former Compostela and Real Sociedad of Spain legend, who was known for his immense ability to score with headers during his heyday, added during a chat with Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that the Eagles can only realise their ambitions through dint of hard work.

He noted further that no team goes into any competition without a slim of hope and desire to emerge champs, but concluded that victory will go only to the side that puts in the best of their preparations and abilities.

Adepoju stressed: “The idea of going in for the Nations Cup should be the same with that mind set that is all about winning any championship you enter for.

“The Nations Cup is a major championship we have in Africa. Every player will love to win it, but they have to work for it to win.”
