Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has received a stern warning that he will not have a stroll into the Super Eagles’ starting line-up for their matches at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Chukwueze took a bold decision to opt out of a possible spot with the youth national team, Flying Eagles, at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, preferring instead to make himself available for the senior squad at AFCON 2019 instead.
After being listed in Nigeria’s provisional squad, which will commence camping on June 2nd in Asaba, Delta State, Chukwueze said he will work hard to be part of the final squad to Egypt 2019, adding that he is always ready to face challenges.
However, sources close to the Eagles have now warned the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist that it will not be so straight forward for him, and a post on social media captured the message in full.
Although the post acknowledged Chukwueze’s assets and his amazing breakthrough in La Liga, there was a strong hint that he has not been able to comport himself well enough as winger, on who his side will rely on for accurate crosses into the opponents’ box.
The post on SupereaglesComps handle read: “@chukwueze_8 showed glimpses of his immense potential on his debut season in the LaLiga.
“Soar Super Eagles. @SSE_NGA. Amazing dribbler, dogfighter, stunning left-foot.
“(However, with) 24 crosses in 26 games, he’ll have to increase that amount if he is actually a winger.”
