NNL Matches Put On Hold For Federation Cup Fixtures

Chief operating officer of the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL), Lawrence Katken has disclosed that the next line of matches in the championship have been put on hold due to the participation by some clubs of the division in the Federation Cup.

Katken stated in a press rlease signed by NNL media officer, Amar Ignis that this is due to the need to allow all second-tier clubs that will play in the Federation Cup round of 64 fixtures to participate properly.

Sequel to that decision, the NNL will go on a two weeks break, and all Match Day 7 fixtures earlier scheduled for this weekend will no longer hold, while new dates will be announced for the games later on.

Ignis pointed out that the NNL has 14 of its clubs taking part among the total of 64 teams in the first round of this year’s Federation Cup, which is also known as Aiteo Cup, due to sponsorship branding.

The NNL clubs in this year’s Fed Cup include ABS FC of Ilorin, Aklosendi Int’l of Lafia, Crown of Ogbomosho, EFCC FC of Abuja, Ekiti United of Ado Ekiti and Jigawa Golden Stars of Dutse.

Others are Kogi United of Lokoja, Gateway United of Abeokuta, Rovers of Calabar, Mighty Jets of Jos, Osun United of Osogbo, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Warri Wolves of Delta State and Sokoto United.

Ahead of this weekend’s commencement of action in Nigeria’s Cup competition, Katken urged all the NNL clubs to avoid acts capable of bringing the beautiful  game to disrepute.

Katken concluded: “Our teams we trust to do us proud, they should ensure they win and decently too,we do  expect them to play by the rules. This is wishing all our teams the best of luck in the Aiteo Cup.”
