Akpoborie Joins Lamentations Over Pooor Flying Eagles

Former Super Eagles striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has joined the rain of lamentations by Nigerian football fans and analysts over the poor performance of the youth national team, Flying Eagles at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

Following the team’s 2-1 loss to Senegal, which sent the Nigerian squad packing in the round of 16 stage of the championship, Akpoborie stated emphatically that he was hugely disappointed by Coach Paul Aigbogun and his wards, who he described as lacking all necessary abilities.

Akpoborie, who excelled in Germany, with clubs like Carl Zeis Jena, Hansa Rostock, VfL Wolfsburg and VfB Stuttgart during his heyday, went on to declare that the Flying Eagles looked pathetic in all their matches,. before they eventually crashed out on Monday.

While Mali also qualified for the quarter-finals with a heroic 5-4 win against Argentina, following a 2-2 draw after extra time on Tuesday, Nigeria’s squad started protesting over unpaid wages by the football federation, much to the disdain of ‘Jonny’ and other observers.

The ex-international, though, added in a post on social media that he will not let the matter bother him too much, in order not to feel depressed for too long over the issue, as he posited that Aigbogun’s side never ever showed prerequisite qualities of a championship-winning team.

Akpoborie stated: “I refuse to be disappointed by this Nigerian Under 20 team, because you can’t give what you don’t have.”
