Igali Flaunts Value Of Gov Dickson Wrestling Classic

The president of Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Honourable Daniel Igali has spoken in lofty terms about the values competitors stand to gain from participating at the upcoming Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The third edition of the championship is again billed to hold in the sports hall of Samson Siasia Stadium from next Saturday, 15th to the 30th, ahead of which Igali further revealed that wrestling stakeholders will also gain from participating in various aspects of the spectacle.

He pointed out that the classics will have in attendance around 600 wrestlers and officials from 20 states and 16 clubs in Nigeria, with the grapplers having opportunities of picking tickets to represent Nigeria at two major international competitions later this year.

He pointed out that, apart from being crowned as national champions once their image tops in their various categories, successful grapplers will also represent Nigeria at the 12th Africa Games in Morocco and the 2019 World Wrestling Championship in Kazakhstan, come September.

Igali declared: “This championship has added relevance because of the Olympics coming up next year.

“As a result, we are expecting very high level of participation and competition at this tournament.

“I’m calling on all interested stakeholders and journalists to come out in droves to watch this tournament.

“I’m appealing to the athletes to put up their top performances because this could change their lives, and go on to make the Olympic team.

“Becoming an Olympian is probably one of the main things for an athlete to achieve. And I’m wishing everybody the best of luck.”
