Eight female players have returned to Nigeria’s 3-by-3 basketball national team camp, ahead of their forthcoming championship qualifiers.
The team, which is already training under the watchful eyes of Coach Chris Acha, comprises eight players from the regular female squad, D’Tigress, who will now battle for only four slots in the final squad to represent the country at the 1st Africa Beach Games.
The Games, which will hold in Sal, Cape Verde from June 18, will see the side line out under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports, rather than that of Nigeria Baskwtball Federation (NBBF).
Among the stars invited from D’Tigress’ FIBA Women’s World Cup record breaking team of 2017 are Akaraiwe Nkem Uwa (First Bank), Dang Lina Ubol (Plateau Rocks), Gloria Umeh (Plateau Rocks), Iornumbe Regina (First Bank), Musa Murjanat (GT 2000), Anaswem Josette (Customs), Mac Dangosu (GT 2000) and Okoro Ifunanya (First Bank).
They all opened camp at Agura Hotel, from where they will report for daily training sessions at Abuja National Stadium, in prepasratuion for the competition, which will also serve as qualifiers for the 2019 World Beach Games in San Diego, California, USA.
A statment by the NBBF added: “The team will train twice daily as the head coach hopes to get the players in shape on time for the first ever edition of the Africa Beach Games.
“In line with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports roster, the 3×3 D’Tigress team will depart for Sal on the 16th of June 2019.”
