Joshua Lost His Memory Against Ruiz – Hearn

More facts are emerging in the shock defeat suffered by Nigerian-born heavyweight boxer, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua against Andy Ruiz Jnr of Mexico, as the loser’s promoter, Eddy Hearn said his ward lost his memory during the bout.

‘AJ’ was stopped in round seven, after taking four tumbles to the canvas during his ill-fated debut in United States, and the depth of the defeat has now been underscored by Hearn’s revelation.

Hearn alarmingly added that Joshua, who represents Great Britain, does not remember anything that happened to him after the third round of his unexpected stoppage by fat-looking Ruiz.

Speaking to DAZN, Hearn said that the former three-belt champ did not receive any major injuries, but recalls that it took a little bit of probing for him to remember the latter parts of the fight in New York.

The 40-year-old promoter said Joshua told him after the fight that his senses were no longer there, when he received a blow to the side of his head from Ruiz’s surprisingly fast fists.

Hearn, though, says they are picking positives from the fact ‘AJ’ managed to last a further four rounds after being knocked down for the first time earlier in the amazing bout at Madison Square Garden (MSG).

Joshua was knocked down four times before referee on the night in The Big Apple, Michael Griffin stopped the bout in the seventh round.

Hearn says that Griffin made the correct call, though Joshua insisted he was fit to continue.

The pair have agreed terms for a rematch which will take place at a yet to be named venue in either November or December, giving Joshua the chance of reclaiming his belts from Ruiz.
