NFF Consider Legal Action Against ‘Fake Nigeria Kit’

Officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are scurrying through legal documents in search of points they can use against Italian sports kit manufacturing company, Legea for rolling out what have been tagged ‘fake’ copies of the country’s well-celebrated national teams’ attire.

Although nothing concrete is yet to come out of The Glasshouse on the matter, feelers indicate that officials have raised eyebrows over reports that Legea have rolled out their own adaptation of the famous Super Eagles’ jersey that was launched at last year’s World Cup.

Indeed, photographs of the Legea ‘copy’ have gone viral on social media, as if to suggest that there is nothing wrong with their decision to come out with an identical version of the design that American giants, Nike specially made for Nigeria a year ago.

However, an official comment is yet to come from Nike or the NFF, but a credible source close to the Nigerian soccer governing body hinted that they will not take the matter lying low.

An initial expose on the development appeared on Twitter, stating: “The rip-off Nigeria shirt is available in a number of different stores, including Calcioshop in Italy, for just £16.

“It might be the latest entry for the “Can I copy your homework meme?” but it’s not bad at all considering the proper shirt costs £64.95.

“One can only assume that Nike is not thrilled with this development which is a clear infringement on one of their best selling kits ever and will soon be heading to court.”

An additional report by a social angle website, Footy Headlines, revealed: “Small Italian brand Legea has created a teamwear kit that closely resembles the iconic Nigeria 2018 home kit.

“The shirt, dubbed ‘Girona’, is green with white sleeves and a subtle chevron pattern that is white on the body and black on the sleeves. A simple crew-neck collar rounds off the shirt, which is an obvious rip-off of the Nigeria one.

“A picture of the jersey was shared by the fantastic @rupertalbe, sparking outrage amongst the football kit Twitter community.

“Many stores stock the Legea ‘Nigeria’ shirt, including Italy’s calcioshop where it’s available at just €18 – shorts included! Several colorways are available.”
