Mikel Agu Causes Tussle Between Olympiakos, Besiktas

FC Porto of Portugal fringe player, Mikel Nduibuisi Agu, who is currently on loan at Vitoria Setubal, is at the centre of a summer transfer tussle between Olympiakos of Greece and Besiktas of Turkey.

After making some marks on loan at Burssaspor of Turkey, Agu is back seeking a lifeline at Porto, but his struggles have not deterred clubs from seeking his signature this summer, with Olympiakos and Besiktas now said to be top of the queue.

Agu appears to have crated the impact on both clubs with performances in 18 games for Setubal, despite battling injuries for a large spell of the season, and scored a single goal for the club that finished 13th with 36 points in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

However, a report by Owngoalnigeria.com states that Olympiakos are ahead of Besiktas and others teams queuing up for his services for Agu, who Porto are ready to sell this summer, after eight years with the club.

Though he is now 26, Agu has been unable to establish himself in Porto’s first team, but Olympiakos have lodged a bid of €2.5m for the Benin City-born midfielder, but his club are asking for £4.5m.

Agu, who joined Porto in 2012, still has two years left on his contract with the Portuguese side, will hope that he does eventually get to play at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, to shore up his value, although he is only named in Nigeria’s standby list for the tourney.
