Onuachu’s Illness In Eagles’ Camp Worries His Club

FC Midtjylland of Denmark have expressed concern over the illness that ruled their top striker, Paul Onuachu out of action with the Super Eagles against Senegal on Sunday.

Although the product of FC Ebedei of Sagamu, Ogun State had initially been put in the frame for his his third international appearance with the Nigerian senior national team, he ended up sitting on the bench for all 90 minutes, as the Eagles got beaten 1-0 in Ismailia, Egypt.

It was a turn-around of fortunes for the towering attacker, who scored on his international debut, under-10 seconds after kick-off against Egypt, but could not achieve a similar impact in the Eagles’ next game against Zimbabwe, before missing the loss to Senegal altogether.

That has caused a rumble of worry at Midtjylland, with officials of the Hening-based side candidly worried by reports of a sickness bug going round in the Eagles’ camp, with as many as five players falling ill.

Aside Onuachu, Leon Aderemi Balogun was also down with flu, which caused Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr to start John Ugochukwu Ogu in the three-man central defence, while Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi were also ruled out with illness, with Oghenekaro Etebo and Chidozie Awaziem having only recovered from illness as well.

With worries spreading over the health of their key star, Midtjylland took to social media to reveal the official angle to Onuachu’s situation, which the Danish club disclosed had been provided by the Eagles’ crew.

Midtjylland posted on Twitter : ”We have been informed that Paul is ill, and unfortunately recuperating to get ready for AFCON.”
