Anthony Joshua- Andy Ruiz Jr
Andy Ruiz Jr, currently the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion after dethroning Britain’s champion Anthony Joshua.
Andy Ruiz Jr is adamant that it will be a case of ‘repeat’ rather than ‘revenge’ when he rematches Anthony Joshua later this year.
The new, unified heavyweight king dethroned Britain’s champion with a with a stunning upset, knockout on June 1. and is now expecting to do it all again in November/December.
Ruiz’s triumph was so shocking that many are still refusing to believe it.
Numerous fans have since come out with excuses to justify AJ’s defeat, while others have simply proclaimed it to be a ‘fluke’.
Responding to these criticisms, the Mexican-American stated: “I think his people are trying to get something [to explain] why he lost like that.
“But he fought a hungry guy, I was hungry, I was mentally focussed for that fight.
“I did not wanna lose in front of my family or get beat up in front of my family.”
Joshua himself described the loss as “a minor setback” but some in the fight game are wondering where Britain’s damaged heavyweight hope goes from here.
