New signing at Union Berlin of Germany, Anthony Ujah has disclosed that he opted to join the German Bundesliga returnees because he saw positive signals of better days ahead of him with the team, where he says the aura of success was clear to him from his first visit to the side.
Ujah makes the move to Berlin almost three weeks after the newly -promoted side secured the services of laregely unknown Nigerian striker, Suleiman Abdullahi permanently from Eintracht Braunschweig
While Abdullahi will seek to make his name with the club, Ujah will seek a bright spark in the twilight of his career, after the 28-year-old ex-Super Eagles striker committed his future to the club for three years.
In penning a deal until June 30, 2022, the third highest-scoring Nigerian star in German Bundesliga history, with 27 goals in 109 games for three clubs – SV Mainz 05, FC Cologne and Werder Bremen – will aim to surpass the scoring feats of two other ex-Eagles’ attacker, Jonathan Akpoborie (with 60 goals to his name) and Victor Okechukwu Agali (32 goals).
The fiery attacker, who has also played for FC Abuja, Warri Wolves, SK Lillestrom of Norway and Liaoning of China, enthused that the cordial atmosphere he met first time at Union Berlin was very conducive for him to realise his ambitions, hence his decision to sign the dotted lines.
Ujah said : ”I was able to convince myself about Union on site here in Berlin. I’m looking forward to an exciting challenge.
”The impressions at the Alte Försterei were very positive and so it was clear to me after my visit: I would like to play here.
”I want to put my experience and my performances at the help of the team in order to deliver a successful season.”
