Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist, Sadiq Umar has become the next Nigerian player, after Taribo West and Ifeanyi Emeghara, to sign for Partizan Belgrade of Serbia, following his arrival on loan from AS Roma of Italy, where he is yet to stabilise himself in four years.
After a turbulent half-season on loan at Glasgow Rangers of Scotland last time out, Umar moves to Belgrade on a season-long loan, in a fresh agreement that includes an option for Partizan to buy him outright at the end of the new season.
Much was expected of Umar when he joined Roma from lower division side, SC Spezia in 2015, but he has only six games in all competitions, and will now hope for a revival at Belgrade, where he arrived on Tuesday morning and immediately went for a medical with the club.
The 22-year-old Umar, who has also been previously loaned to Bologna, Torino and Perugia of Italy as well as NAC Breda of Holland, will also aim to make his mark for Partizan against Beltinci FC, Olimpija, Bordeaux and Paks in pre-season games before they start in the league on July 19.
However, before he gets down to action in the forthcoming pre-season friendlies, leading up to his involvement on the competitive level at his new base, Umar is is expected to join the rest of Savo Milosevic’s team at their summer training camp in Slovenia.
