New summer signing at Racing Genk of Belgium, Stephen Odey has set for himself lofty targets in the coming season, as he wants to hit the ground running and make the best of his second deal in Europe.
Odey has already given a sign of things to come, as he scored a brace in his first match since switching from FC Zurich of Switzerland, and was beaming with all smile during his official unveiling few hours later.
Odey, who moved to Zurich in 2017, after making waves with Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos, said he is eager to prove his mettle with the club that has a long history of Nigerian players in their team.
Past exploits of the Nigerian sextet of Blessing Kaku, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh, Kim Ojo, Kennedy Nwanaga, Marvin Ogunjimi and Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi will now motivate Odey, who was officially unveiled by RKC, after scoring twice for the club in a 10-1 victory over Bregel Sport during a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old attacker was presented to the club’s staff, fans and media after completing a £7.5m move from Zurich to Cristal Arena on a three-year contract, with option for an additional year.
Odey, who scored 10 league goals to help Zurich secure a spot in the UEFA Europa League last season, Europa spot, is now aiming to go further than his overall record in Switzerland, where he scored 12 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.
Odey took to social media after his formal presentation and posted: “Unveiling done and dusted. Now looking forward to a glorious outing with De Smurfen.”
