AIK Stockholm of Sweden attacker, Chinedu Obasi (Edu) is back in the news, after scoring for his club in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Ararat Yerevan of Armenia.
However, despite Obasi’s effort on Tuesday night at Football Academy Stadium his Swedish club lost the game 2-1, even after the 33-year-old former Super Eagles attacker and Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medalist equalised earlier when the Scandinavian side went a goal down.
The veteran star, who has scored three goals in all competition for AIK so far this seasons, hit an equaliser for Gnaget in the 39th minute, after Petros Avetisyan put the home side in front with a penalty kick only three minutes into the game.
Obasi’s hope on a draw was, however, dashed when Avetisyan notched the Armenia club’s winner six minutes later, following a brilliant run by their Nigerian striker, Ugochukwu Louis Ogana, who played 20 minutes.
Nonetheless, the away goal scored by Obasi gives his side a lifeline for the second leg at Friends Arena in Solna, Stockholm, Sweden, with high hopes of reaching the next stage of the Champions League qualifiers.
