The Super Eagles have sent a thank you message to the authorities, people and fans in Alexandria, Egypt, following the cordial athmospher that they accorded the Nigerian national team during their stay in the coastal city.
Although the Eagles lost their last group match in the city’s historic stadium, which is reputed as the oldest in all Africa, the team’s media unit noted in their message that the squad was supported all the way in their first two matches, which they won 1-0 against Burundi and Guinea, as well as in the round of 16 against Cameroon.
That crunch tie last Saturday ended in an epic 3-2 win for Nigeria, and confirmed they place in the quarter-finals, where they will now cface South Africa on Wednesaday.
However, the Eagles had to relocate on Monday ahead of Wedneday’s fixture, as they all billed to battle Bafana Bafana at Ciaro International Stadium, which will now be their first match outside Alexandria.
Before the team’s departure, the Eagles’ media unit released a thank you message for the people and fans in Alexandria, where Nigeria won three matches and lost one, which was a complacent outing against Madagascar, after the squad had already qualified for the round of 16.
The message on social media read: “Thank you Alexandria. We appreciate all the love and support you gave us at our hotel, Helnan Palestine Hotel and our training ground at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. #TotalAFCON2019 #SoarSuperEagles #Team9jaStrong.”
