Ahmadu Bello Stadium Hosts Fed Cup Finals

Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna will host the male and female finals of Nigeria’s Federation Cup this Sunday, 28th July, with both matches scheduled to run back-to-back same day at same venue.

The male final will see last year’s runner’s up, Kano Pillars tackle 2017 second placed Niger Tornadoes of Minna, while Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt will take on Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia in the women’s final, with both matches hoplding same day in The City of Crocodiles.

Ahead of the double-deal on Sunday, the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday sent out a reminder to all media houses across the country to register for accreditation of photo journalists and reporters that will cover the occasion.

The press statement read: “Please be informed that in consideration of the size of the Media Gallery at the venue, no media organization shall be accorded more than one slot for Press and Photo Journalist.

“Media organizations are to send in their request to this email between 3pm on Tuesday, 23rd July and 6pm on Thursday, 25th July 2019. No request will be entertained after 5pm on Thursday, 25th July 2019.

“Accreditation cards will be issued at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Saturday, 27th July 2019.”

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes arrived Kaduna on Sunday, with plans of holding multiple training sessions at Kaduna Township Stadium and a last session at Sunday’s venue, a day before the final.

While Tornadoes defeated Rivers United of Port Harcourt 2-1 in the semi-final, Pillars beat Calabar Rovers 3-1 on penalties after both teams played out a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.

The Minna club, who will, incidentally play their CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, lost to Akwa United of Uyo in the 2017 Fed Cup final in Lagos, while Pillars threw away a three-goal lead to lose on penalties to Rangers last year in Asaba, Delta state.

Speaking about plans to host the double-finals successfully and hitch-free, Kaduna State Football Association chairman, Honorable Sharreeff Kassimu assured of a memorable event for players, coaches, officials, fans, guests and journalists.

The amiable administrator, who was recently re-elected for another four-year term, thanked Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for giving the hosting right to Kaduna, which he said has revived its soccer fans base, and further assured that security will be paramount on Sunday.

Kassimu declared: “I want to graciously thank the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the amiable leadership of Mr Amaju Pinnick for the giant strides in developing football at all levels in the country.

“It is no longer news that Kaduna has been anointed to host the oldest football competition in Nigeria now known as the Aiteo Cup for both the male and female categories and we are more than ready to host because it is a great honour and privilege to be recognized.

“Let me assure everyone travelling from far and near that Kaduna is safe and ready to host the best ever Aiteo Cup finals in terms of adequate and effective security, crowd control and other logistics to ensure a hitch-free final before, during and after.

“Days ago, we wrote to Kaduna state Commissioner of Police requesting for certain number of Policemen, and I’m happy to inform you that our request has been granted as ninety (90) Policeman would be on ground.

“In addition to that, we have also made arrangements for Civil Defence, Civilian JTF and FA security as we expect a capacity crowd at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium for the finals. Kaduna has certainly come alive again with interesting footballing activities.”
