Two back-to-back victories over Dominican Republic by Nigeria’s men’s senior basketball national team, D’Tigers have left coach of the side, Alex Nwora excited, as he see the wins as morale boosting results ahead of the FIBA World Cup, which is scheduled to hold this August in China.
Nwora admitted he was excited seeing his lads show domination over their opponents, as D‘Tigers defeated Dominican Republic 89-87 in San Domingo, to follow up on Saturday’s 85-81 victory over the same team, who are also preparing for the FIBA World Cup bound.
He added that some of the players will be dropped after the test games, while others on his expanded 44-man list will join the team for the next phase of training, before heading out to China for the championship, which will hold from August 31 to September 15.
The former Cape Verde handler, however, affirmed that he is happy to see all his players show multiple signs of improvement, as they intensify preparations for the Basketball Mundial, with D’Tigers dominating for long spells in the tightly contested game, which he said accorded him another opportunity to rate his players as well as try out new tactics.
Nwora said: “The friendly games will afford the technical crew the opportunity of evaluating the players.
“The last few days have been very interesting in camp. The players are showing a high level of discipline and willingness to learn new things.”
