Enyimba To Battle Burkina Faso’s Champions

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba of Aba will play against Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso in the first round of the CAF Champions League, while Rangers International of Enugu have drawn bye in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Eyinmba will begin their chase of a possible third CAF Champions League title at home in the first leg at Aba Stadium before heading for the reverse fixture in Ouagadougou, where The People’s Elephant will be hoping for a fine outing and return to the group stage of the Champions League, after a four-year absence.

However, they will still have one more hurdle to cross, as winner of the fixtures between Enyimba and Rahimo will face either Al Hillal of Sudan or Rayon Sports of Rwanda in the second round to reach the group stage.

In the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup, Rangers have drawn bye to face the winner between AS Pelican of Gabon and AS Maniema Union from Democratic Republic of Congo in the second round, while Niger Tornadoes of Minna face Santoba Conakry of Guinea in the first-round.

All the first round matches of both continental club competitions are scheduled to be played in August, while the second-round games will take place in September.

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Football Association chairman, Hon. Sharreeff Kassimu disclosed that Niger Tornadoes, who got the nod to represent Nigeria in the Confederation Cup by virtue of being runners-up in the 2017 Federation Cup, will play their home matches at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, which he said is in peak shape to play the role well.

Kassimu said: “I can confirm to you that Niger Tornadoes will play their CAF Confederation Cup home matches in Kaduna and at the Ahmadu Bello stadium to be precise.

“We have received an official letter from the NFF to that regard and some officials of Niger Tornadoes visited our Secretariat last week in Kaduna to also communicate same.”
