Balogun Faces Fresh Competition At Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion of England defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun could be heading for more tough time with The Seagulls this season, as the English Premier League side are hunting for another top player to help beef up their rather shaky back-four.

Balogun failed to get enough playing time last term, in his EPL debut season with the club, as injury problems and loss of form coagulated to knock him down the pecking order behind Brighton’s top two centre backs, but the arrival of a third stopper could now make things worse for him in the coming campaign.

This is sequel to reports out of Queensland that Baloogun could be heading into another challenging time with Brighton, should the team’s top brass pull off a £25m club-record move for Bristol City defender, Adam Webster.

Bristol City initially put a £30m price-tag on Webster after Aston Villa had a £12m bid rejected last month for the 24-year-old star, who only moved to Ashton Gate from Ipswich for £8m last year and he made 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals, as The Robins finished eighth in the Championship.

The Seagulls are offering £20m up front for the centre-back, with the rest of the cash coming in add-ons, and an additional report by Press Association claims a deal between the clubs is expected to be struck.

Should Brighton pay the fee it would be a Sky Bet Championship record, eclipsing the £24m Leicester City agreed to pay Norwich City for James Maddison last summer.

However, one piece of the jigsaw puzzle that could favour Balogun is that the arrival of Webster at Brighton could free up one of the Super Eagles’ mulatto stopper’s rivals, Lewis Dunk, who has been linked with Leicester, though there has been no contact between both clubs.
