FIFA Inspection Team Completes Work In Benin, Asaba

The visiting five-man inspection team from global soccer governing body, FIFA on Wednesday completed their tour of facilities earmarked for the 2020 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Benin City, with in-depth checks at stadia and hospitals in the Edo State capital, before moving same day to Asaba, Delta State.

During their stop over in Benin City, the FIFA team inspected facilities at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, which is proposed as a match venue, as well as stipulated training sites at Western Boys College and University of Benin Sports Centre, including medical equipment and facilities at Edo Specialist Hospital and University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

The delegation then flew to Asaba, to see Stephen Keshi Stadium, which has been tabled as a matching venue, alongside training sites at Asaba Squash Courts and St. Patrick’s College, while the referral hospitals that were checked late Wednesday included St. Luke’s Hospital and Asaba General Hospital.

The team will head to Uyo from Asaba on Thursday to inspect Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Ikot Ekpene Stadium and Godswill Akpabio Training Pitch (training sites) as well as Ibom Specialist Hospital and University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

Later same day, the inspection team will fly to Abuja for a meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ permanent secretary, Olusade Adesola before paying a courtesy visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
