Lobi Stars Want Return To African Terrain – Tyavkase

Lobi Stars of Makurdi attacker, David Tyavkase has revealed that the big ambition he and his teammates have this season is to ensure they take the Middle Belt club back into the continental terrain at the end of the forthcoming contest in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Tyavkase recalled that they had an exiting time playing in the CAF Champions League last season, which he admitted gave them extra exposure and activity, hence their desire to get such again next year.

He further acknowledged during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that playing continental soccer brings more value to each player, with additional income and spotlight attention granted them, which he said made all Lobi Stars players happy last season.

However, with the absence of continental action for the NPFL winners of 2018, courtesy a hastily truncated campaign, due to time constraints of the league with Confederation of African Football (CAF) schedules, Tyavkase noted that Lobi have to work their way back to the top again.

He posited that the onus is now on the players to ensure they put in extra effort and perform better in their matches this season, to put the Makurdi-based side back into contention for a continental ticket and for them to regain the spotlight of playing in CAF matches next year.

The 34-year-old veteran on the Nigerian domestic league, who was part of the Enyimba of Aba squad that won successive CAF Champions League titles in 2003 and 2004 as well as the CAF Super Cup in 2004 and 2005, says he wants to achieve more glory with Lobi Stars.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Tyavkase is still an integral part of Lobi Stars, who returned to the continental group stage early this year, for the first time since 2000.

He recalls winning four Nigerian league titles with Enyimba (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010), plus the FA Cup in 2005 and 2009, all of which are now the motivation of his quest for continental glory with Lobi Stars.

Tyavkase submitted: “Last season was good for us, because we played on the continent. But, this time, we are not happy.

“We are not happy that we are not playing in the continent. Playing in the continent keeps you busier and gives you more exposure.

“That is something we will not get this season, and we are not happy about it. That’s why our target this season is to do better, and make sure we return to the continent at the end of the league in Nigeria.”
