The new season in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is now scheduled to commence on the 22nd of September, with all matches of week one billed to hold same day.
This is sequel to a statement by the organisers, League Management Company (LMC), which revealed Tuesday that the 2019/2020 campaign will kick-off officially on the fourth Sunday of the coming month.
LMC’s chief operatring officer, Mallam Salihu Abubakar further disclosed that all Matchday 1 fixtures will hold on September 22 and the season will run until May 17 next year, but there will be a break from December 30, 2019 to January 10, 2020.
Unlike last season, when an abridged format was adopted and winner was determined in a post-season play-off contest held in Lagos, the new season will return to its original 38 matchday format.
However, unofficial sources warned that the NPFL time-table is subject to change, as it will feature only four matchdays outside weekends, such that it will have the fewest number of games to be played on weekdays among the NPFL calenders in recent years.
