Omeruo States Delight In Permanent Leganes Deal

Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo has admitted delight with confirmation of his full contract from Chelsea of England to the club he first started for on loan last season, as he says playing in La Liga has helped him improve in his game and performances on the field of play.

Speaking against the backdrop of a £5m deal that saw him end an unusual run of seven years without kicking a single ball in competitive matches for Chelsea, since first signing for the the London-based club in 2012, Omeruo said he is happy with the opportunity to continue with Leganes.

The former Sunshine Stars of Akure, Standard Liege of Belgium, ADO Den Haag of Holland, Middlesbrough of England as well as ex-Alayanspor and Kasimpasa of Turkey stopper added that he is now looking forward to consolidating on the strides and gains he achieved last season in Spain.

The dark-skinned stopper, who was one of Nigeria’s shinning lights at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, in which he scored the only goal in the Super Eagles’ 1-0 win over Guinea in their second group match, also thanked Leganes’ coach for helping him further develop all aspects of his game, especially in terms of confidence and concentration.

The 25-year-old stopper thanked his agent for making the deal possible and promised to continue giving his best with Leganes, now that he has sealed a permanent contract with the club agreed a permanent transfer worth £5m.

Omeruo told SCORENigeria: “This is really a huge relief for me after my seven-year relationship with Chelsea came to an end with my new deal at Leganes.

“I am so glad that I have now signed a permanent contract at Leganes. I thank my agent, Chelsea and Leganes that this deal was finally possible after Chelsea rejected previous offers by Leganes.

“Leganes wanted the deal to happen because they believe in me and I will continue to work for the team.

“It was always my wish to remain in Spain. I’m in the right frame of mind to join the team for the new season very soon.”

He added on social media: “Playing in the La Liga has improved my confidence level. It helped in improving my control of the ball and positioning.

“Most importantly, I had a coach who believes in me. He took his time to explain a lot of things to me. So, moving forward, I would like to keep improving.”
