Amoo Tasks NPFL Coaches In Eagles Invitations

Former Super Eagles’ assistant gaffer, Fatai Folorunsho Amoo has urged coaches in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to play key roles in helping players from the domestic championship get invitations to the national team.

Speaking against the backdrop of the absence of home-based players in the Eagles’ latest list of invitees, Amoo warned that it will stay that way until league coaches rally round their players.

The former handler of First Bank FC of Lagos, Sunshine Stars of Akure, Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Enyimba of Aba added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that NPFL coaches have to step up their efforts in according home-based players technical tips that will help them put up better performance in the league.

‘Arsenal’ reckoned that it is only when home-based players do well for their clubs that they would be able to convince Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr that they deserve spots in the Nigerian national team.

He, however, also pointed out that NPFL players have failed to prove their worth when given opportunities in the home-based Eagles, which he reckons is another angle to their continued inability to break into the main team, which has bigger demands that go beyond skills and talent.

The soft-spoken coach ended with an additional view that NPFL coaches should also be able to fight for their players to get more attention in the Eagles, as he believes Rohr would listen if handlers of teams in the domestic league speak out as one on behalf of the best of their wards.

Amoo added: “We need coaches who can stick out for the players; not only speak for them, but also give them the right tips on how to play.

“We should teach our players better tactics and ensure they do well; in the league, then they will stand a chance of getting invitations.

“The players too should sit up. They need to do better when they get little opportunities. The value of players in the national league is low, it is dropping. So, they need to work harder for themselves.”
