Nigeria’s female youth national team, Falconets will this Sunday line out for action against South Africa, in their first match of the Africa Games’ women football competition in Rabat, Morocco.
The Falconets, who traveled out of Lagos to keep their date at the 12th edition of the Games, which will hold from 17th to 29th August, will also face Cameroon and Zambia in Group B of the tournament, while the host nation Morocco tango Equatorial Guinea, Mali and Algeria in Group A.
The Nigerian team’s first game is against South Africa at Stade Academie Mohammed VI in Rabat on Sunday at 9pm Nigeria time, after which they will keep a date with Cameroon at same venue and time on Wednesday, before ending their group campaign against Zambia at Stade Boubker Ammar-Sale on Saturday, 24th August starting 8pm Nigeria time.
The Falconets will hope to emulate the feat of Nigeria’s women’s team that won gold at 8th All-Africa Games that the country hosted in Abuja in October 2003, and then repeated the feat in Algiers four years later.
Nigeria, though, failed to qualify for the 10th edition of 2011 in Maputo, Moazambique and then went on to settle for fourth place in Brazzaville, Congo Republic four years ago.
