Omeruo Sends Thank You Message To Chelsea

Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo has sensationally sent an emotion-laden thank you message to his former parent club, Chelsea of England, despite The Blues’ failure to give him a single competitive match during his seven-year spell on their cards.

Though not acknowledged by Chelsea, the 25-year-old defender had a very successful 2018/2019 debut season in La Liga, where he made 31 appearances for Leganes, with 30 starts, thereby setting him up for frenetic summer interest from various suitors, and Omeruo is excited that he finally has a full deal at a top club in Europe.

This comes after loan spells at ADO Den Haag of Holland, Middlesbrough of England as well as the duo of Alayanspor and Kasimpasa in Turkey, until he put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will see him stay at Leganes until the summer of 2024.

The Kaduna-born lad, who has 50 caps for Nigeria and was in top form, with a goal to show, at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the Super Eagles picked bronze, will wear jersey number four at Leganes this season, after resuming training on Wednesday with the team.

During the past season, Omeruo played a total of 31 official matches of which 30 were starts, logging 2,704 minutes in total, under the tutelage of Mauricio Pellegrino, who the Eagles’ star says motivated him to play on top of hios game and thanks for the transformation of his game.

He has played in two World Cups, a Confederations Cup and two AFCON competitions, one of which he won with the Eagles in 2013 at the age of 19, but he never gained very much deserved attention from Chelsea.

Omeruo never got to play competitively for the London club, after first signing for them in 2012 from Standard Liege of Belgium, but the dark-skinned Super Eagles’ stopper is not holding any malice, in the wake of his permanent switch to Leganes.

Rather than hold grudges against The Blues, Omeruo took to social media to post an emotional farewell message to the Stamford Bridge outfit, from among which he also singled out one of their second team coaches, Eddie Newton for a special mention.

He recalled joining Chelsea as an 18-year-old in the summer of 2012, and Newton was the assistant manager when he arrived, such that Omeruo felt duty bound to give individual credit to the coach in his solemn thank you message to the former English Premier League champions.

Omeruo stated: “Eddie Newton, you are an amazing coach and manager, thank you; have nothing but Love for this club.

“Chelsea made my dreams as a child to become a reality. Thank you for an amazing seven years. Thanks to all Chelsea fans for the love.

“I will never forget this club. But it’s time to move on and realise my full potential. Thank you, Chelsea.”
