Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke has declared that he was happy seeing Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen hit a brace of goals on his debut in the French Ligue 1, but added that the fast-rising youngster must not get carried away by the feat.
While acknowledging that the Eagles’ rookie is a good player, having emerged top scorer in the Golden Eaglets’ squad Amuneke coached to win Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup and is still the competition’s eternal highest goals getter, the ex-international stressed that there is more work to be done, in order for his form not to drop.
The 1994 African Footballer of The Year added during a radio sports programme monitored in Lagos that Osimhen will get every opportunity he wants to play regularly at Lille, but it would then be up to him to make his mark with the club, which once had Peter Osaze Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama on their cards.
He added that the biggest line of advice he has for Osimhen is never top forget his roots, as well as those who brought him up, and to ensure he keeps up the momentum of his zeal for training and appetite for goals in a hotter dimension with each passing match he plays for Lille.
Amuneke declared: “All I can tell him is that he should just continue to be himself.
“He should stay focused, remain disciplined and keep training well, with hard work and determination, he will continue to grow.
“He must remain calm and never forget where he is coming from. Once he stays humble and keeps doing the right things, he will do better.
“He is in a team where he will play many matches; and he has to use every opportunity well.
“He has started well, and I am happy for him, and I wish him all the best. He is a good player, and I am sure he will continue to grow.”
