Nigerian Athletes Charged To Avoid Drugs In Morroco

Nigeria’s contingent to this year’s Africa Games in Morocco has been charged to ensure they stay clear of illicit substances and drugs, as President Mohammadu Buhari was a ‘clean bill’ for the country throughout the competition.

This was revealed by secretary to the federal government, Boss Mustapha, while speaking during the official handover of the contingent to Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

Mustapha stressed the desire of President Buhari that Team Nigeria’s athletes and officials to the 12th Africa Games in Rabat will stay away from performance enhancing drugs and other nefarious conduct, but told them to win clean medals for the country.

Buhari, who was represented by Mustapha at the occasion, further said the country would be proud of all determined and clean athletes, even if they fail to win any medals rather than be stripped off anything they get because of failed drugs tests.

Mustapha added that the president has promised to adequately take care of the contingent’s welfare, while asking them to strive towards gunning for the top of the overall medals’ table at the end of the Games.

He added: “Let me assure you that the Federal Government is fully committed to our delegations successful participation in the African games and will ensure that the welfare of the team is adequately taken care of.

“I want to charge all athletes and team officials going to the Games to be worthy ambassadors of our great country, both on the field of play and outside the sports arena.

“I therefore urge you to keep the integrity of our nation intact by competing clean and fair devoid of any form of doping at the African games.”
