Barcelona Femeni of Spain attacker, Asisat Oshoala is basking in the euphoria of yet another goal she recorded in pre-season with her club, but says it is all down to impressive team work among her colleagues.
After netting her seventh goal this summer for Barca, in a 1-0 win over Montpellier of France, Oshoala said she is excited with her squad’s form, which she also acknowledged accounted for their stunning win and her brace against her former club, Arsenal Ladies of England last week.
The Super Falcons’ star, a three-time African Women Footballer of The Year, admitted she was happy to also score in that encounter against The Gunners in London, before which she had earlier got her first four goals in friendlies against AEM Leida of Spain and Olympique Marseille of France, for which Oshoala says she is happy with her form so far.
‘SuperDee’ opened her pre-season account in grand style by netting a hat-trick in Barcelona Ladies’ 13-0 win over Lleida, in which she helped Iluis Cortes’ side began their summer tour in style.
The match came just few days after Oshoala returned to her club’s base on Wednesday, July 31, after helping Nigeria reach the round of 16 at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
The 25-year-old ace from Ikorodu, Lagos State, who signed a full contract with Barca at the end of last season, after an initial successful loan spell with the Spanish club, scored three after getting off the bench in the first game, before adding another sizzler in the next against Marseille.
Her effort in the win against Marseille came when she powered home a close range powerful shot, after receiving a defence piercing pass from the right flank to complete her side’s 5-0 demolition of the French side.
She continued her spree last Wednesday by netting twice in a 5-2 away win against Arsenal, making it six goals in three matches for her side, as they prepare for the start of the Liga Iberdrola season on September 8.
It was Oshoala’s first outing in London since leaving Arsenal Ladies in January 2017 and, though, she admitted she felt a lot of nostalgia on her return to London, the in-form star star said it was a great outing for her.
The Falcons’ assistant skipper at the recent Female Mundial then hit her seventh goal in four successive games, as she helped her side end their pre-season spree on a high against Montpellier, with Oshoala hitting the only goal of a 1-0 in Sunday’s international club friendly.
It was a fourth straight win for the Spanish side, who were drawn against Juventus in the Women’s Champions League Round of 32 on Friday, and Oshoala said she was happy to help them end their tour on a high.
The dark-skinned lass, who has also played for FC Robo Queens of Lagos, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, Liverpool Ladies of England and Dalian Quanjian of China, said she is also loving how pre-season is going so far for her and her mates, who she said have been quite impressive.
Oshoala posted her upbeat thoughts on social media, stating with glee: “Impressive team work against @ArsenalWFC and great seeing some old friends too. @FCBfemeni (I love) #Preseason.”
