Trabzonspor of Turkey striker, Anthony Nwakaeme is bound to face stiff competition for a regular spot in the Turkish Super Lig club’s first 11 this season, following their agreement to sign on former Liverpool striker, Daniel Sturridge.
Although Nwakaeme was in top form during pre-season, netting goals by the dozen, the former Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel all-action attacker is set for his biggest challenge for relevance in the team with the arrival of Sturridge.
A report by TRT Spor reveals that Sturridge landed at Istanbul airport on Monday night ahead of his signing with Trabzonspor, who offered the 29-year-old a two-year deal.
Sturridge agreed to sign the deal that takes him into a head-on contest with Nwakaeme after his mother and uncle were in the city of Trabzon last week to visit facilities and discuss the England striker’s transfer.
The report concluded: “Negotiations are progressing positively and there’s confidence inside Trabzonspor that an agreement is settled.”
