Last year’s Commonwealth Games shot put silver medalist in Gold Coast, Australia, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has gained superlative words, after finishing top of his class at the ongoing Africa Games.
Enekwechi threw himself into history and a place in Nigeria’s athletics medals’ hall of fame, after winning gold at the 12th Games’ shot put on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco.
Enekwechi broke Frank Elemba’s Africa Games record of 20.25m to set a new one of 21.48m, a mark he landed on his last attempt. Egypt’s duo of Khalifa Mohamed and Hassan Mostafa settled for the silver and bronze after finishing with a throw of 20.85m and 20.74m respectively.
Although fellow-Nigerian, Ogundeji Ayomidotun could only finish 4th with a throw of 20.06m, accolades kept rolling fro Enekwechi on social media, with one entry hailing his winning throw as a ‘massive launch.’
The message on @NGAthletix read: “Herty congratulations to Chuks Enekwechi, who cemented his position once again as Africa’s best shot put thrower.
“He sealed the #AfricanGames title, with a massive launch of 21.46m. He’s now a: 2018 CWG Silver Medalist, 2018 African Champion, 2019 African Games Champion.”
