CD Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo has confirmed that he will miss Nigeria’s international friendly against Ukraine next week, because he has to stay back at his base to renew his residence permit.
In the wake of feelers indicating that the vastly-improved central defender will not be available for Tuesday’s game at Dnipro-Arena, Omeruo affirmed that he would again love to don the green-and-white again, but circumstances beyond his control have put that hope on hold.
The dark-skinned stopper, who was one of Nigeria’s best players en route to another bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year in Egypt, where he got the Super Eagles’ only goal in their second match victory over Guinea, said he will miss reuniting with his pals.
The former Chelsea star, who only sealed a full transfer to Leganes this summer, added that he is currently processing his work permit in Spain, hence his inability to report for the Eagles’ first post-AFCON 2019 friendly slated for September 10 in Dnipro, Ukraine; but he went on to wish the his colleagues well in Tuesday’s clash.
Omeruo told SCORENigeria: “Yes, it is true I will not be part of the match because my work permit is still in process here in Spain.
“It is an important process I need to get done for me to continue to play in the Spanish La Liga and also concentrate more on my game. So, I will miss the match against Ukraine.”
