Sports Journalists under the umbrella of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria,(SWAN), Kano state chapter on Tuesday charged Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to revoke all abandoned sports projects.
The body in a communiqué issued at the end of its congress held on Tuesday at the Kano state Sports Commission, KSSC conference hall described the mass abandonment of sports projects as retrogressive and anti sports development.
The communiqué issued and signed by the chairman communiqué committee, Abdulgafar Oladimeji stated that the congress bemoan the abandoning of the construction and renovation works on vital sports facilities located at Kofar Naisa Sports Complex.
The august gathering said the contractors who were engaged to work on the swimming pool, rugby field, track and field facilities all located at Kofar Naisa have deserted their working sites.
The statement said “SWAN, Kano state chapter task Kano state government to order back to site, the contractors who have allegedly abandoned ongoing sports projects across the state.
“Congress charge Kano state government not to hesitate in revoking the contracts that were abandoned by contractors. Noting specifically its concern over the abandonment of construction works at Kofar Naisa sports complex located along BUK road, Kano.
The communiqué also said “The body disclose worries over the snail pace approach to the prior plans to ensure the participation of the state contingent to the 2019 edition of the annual National Youth Games,NYG owing to sluggishness in the disbursing of funds. Which it said could impair the performance of Team Kano(2) billed to depart for Ilorin to hoist Kano flag at the games.”
