Afeez Brace Shoot Tornadoes To Ogunjobi Gold Cup Final

A sublime brace from two set-pieces from Afeez Nasiru shot Niger Tornadoes to their first ever Ogunjobi Gold Cup final billed for Saturday in Ilorin.

Abubakar Bala became the first coach in history of pre-season tournament to make and back-to-back finals after he guided Kwara Utd to the finale in Akure in 2018 and now Niger Tornadoes. The Ikon Allah Boys showed no mercy in the four-goal thriller that had two penalties as they came from behind to smash three goals past Remo Stars as the semi-final tie ended 3-1.

The Sky Blues Stars from Sagamu took an early lead in the 2nd minute after Sunday Williams was hacked down in the box as referee Iranloye Shina point to the spot for a penalty.

Kingsley Akemini made no mistake as he put the Sky Blue Stars ahead converting from the spot kick.

The lead only lasted for 22 minutes as combative midfielder, Afeez Nasiru stole the night after he leveled the scoreline to 1-1 scoring from a sublime free kick from 20 yards.

With less than two minutes into the second half, Tornadoes increased the scoreline to 2-1 as Wakili Abdulahi beat his marker inside the box to smash home a sensational strike.

Remo Stars then paid dearly for their poor defending and goalkeeping as Afeez Nasiru made 3-1 and a brace for himself scoring from another superb goal from a free kick in the 82 minute.

Remo Stars should have scored a second goal from a penalty in the 90th minute after ref Shina spotted an infringement in Tornadoes box.

Nokeeb Olaniyonu couldn’t converted from the spot as Tornadoes goalkeeper, Lucky Jimoh saved calmly.
