Okoye Will Get Eagles’ Debut Next Month – Agu

Fortuna Dusseldorf II of Germany goalkeeper, Emil Maduka Okoye may finally get his debut with the Super Eagles next month, if the words of the Nigerian national team’s assistant coach, Alloy Agu are anything to go by.

The international shot-stopper, who is the Eagles’ current goalkeepers’ trainer, hinted as much while explaining reasons behind Okoye’s 90 minutes bench role in Tuesday’s friendly against Ukraine, as he revealed that the Germany-born lad actually proved himself during training in Dnipro, but has to wait for his chance to come in October.

Agu parried insinuations in some quarters that Okoye was not deemed good enough, hence the decision by Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr to leave the 19-year-old mulatto out of reckoning for a stint in the 2-2 draw with Ukraine.

Rather than write Okoye off, Agu stressed that everyone that was invited for Tuesday’s game cannot play at the same time, which was also the case with Kelechi Iheanacho, Brian Idowu, Paul Ebere Onuachu, Leon Aderemi Balogun and Emmanuel Bonaventure.

The keepers’ trainer, though, went on to buttress that future invitations for any of the players that were called up for the match at Dnipro-Arena would depend on their performances with their respective clubs, among which he believes Okoye will still stand tall bedfore October.

Agu declared: “We can’t play all those who were invited at the same time. It’s still work in progress, and everyone will get their own chance to play. Okoye will get his chance during the next game in October, the same with some of those that were not used on Tuesday. They just have to wait for their time to come.”
