Stephen Odey Relishes Champions League ‘Privilege’

Racing Genk of Belgium attacker, Stephen Odey has disclosed that he is already relishing the prospect of living a long held dream by playing in this season’s UEFA Champions League with the club he joined this summer.

After setting his European football career on course with some lightweight days at FC Zurich of Switzerland, the Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos product says he is happy with the privilege of taking a step higher into the elite continental soccer showpiece at his new base.

He added that he is already looking forward to taking on AS Napoli of Italy, Red Bull Salzburg of Austria and cup-holders, Liverpool of England in the group stage of the UCL, which he admits is a is a big plus for him, as it will further boost his career.

After starring for the under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles in Tuesday’s 5-0 whitewash of Sudan at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Odey is also looking up to starring at the African championship in November then the Olympic Games next year, as he equally seeks to uplift himself in the national team level.

The youngster, who was a pivotal part of the Zurich side that reached the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League last season, in which he started all eight matches before they exited the competition against Napoli, said he wants to get back at the Italian Serie A side in the UCL, which he sees as the fulfillment of what appeared only as an illusion to him several years ago in Lagos.

Odey submitted: ”It is a dream come true, what you watched several years ago and being part of the team for the Champions League is a very great privilege for me.”
