Enyeama Denies Ever Rejecting Super Eagles’ Return

Former Lille Metropole of France goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has denied ever snubbing an offer to return to the Super Eagles, as the ex-captain of the Nigerian national team says he will always honour any call from his country.

In contrast with previous reports that the former Akwa United of Uyo and Enyimba of Aba as well as ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv and Apoel Tel Aviv star was still bitter about his acrimonious exit from the Eagles, following a falling out with the former coach, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oiseh, Enyeama insists he is still available for selection.

He promised to rise to the occasion if called upon, especially with palpable signs still lingering over a goalkeeper’s crises in the squad, which the three-time World Cup hero says he would readily plug.

While critics would argue that Enyeama is seeking an easy route back into club action, considering that he has been without a team since leaving Lille under a cloud of controversy, the veteran shot0stopper insists his love for Nigeria is for real, not tinted with any egocentric or personal desires.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who is Nigeria’s most capped player ever, announced his retirement from international football in 2015 after he clash with Oliseh and, though he has been without a club since he left Lille at the end of his contract in 2018, Enyeama says he is set to prove his fitness in an attempt to earn a deal before the 2019-20 season is over.

Enyeama told Brila FM: “Since I left Nigeria football in 2015, nobody has contacted me. All the things you heard about me turning down the Super Eagles is false.

“I just didn’t want to exacerbate it by joining issues with those peddling the story. I cannot say no to Nigeria; if Nigeria tells me today that there’s a goalkeeping problem and they need me I can’t say no.”
