Nigerian youngsters were again on fire with goals over the weekend, with West Bromwich Albion of England defensive midfielder, Semi Ajayi showing strikers how to do it, while former Arsenal youth team player, Chuba Akpom popped up to confirm his growing status at PAOK Saloniki of Greece, Eberechi Eze struck for QPR and Uche Ikepeazu made hay with a stunner in Scotland.
In the English Championship, Ajayi’s 80th minute header salvaged a point for West Brom in a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage, as the Super Eagles’ returnee rookie his first goal in seven appearances for the club he joined from Rotherham United in the summer.
Also in the English Championship, former Eagles’ invitee, Eberechi Eze continued his amazing start to the season as he scored one and assisted another to help Queens Park Rangers get a 3-2 win over Luton Town.
The 21-year-old all-action attacker started his seventh consecutive league game and needed just three minutes to get the game’s first goal, then got his second assist of the season to put QPR 3-0 up before Harry Cornick reduced the deficit on the 36th minute to set up a tense second half.
Eze now has three goals and two assists from seven games in England’s second-tier division, while his London-based club move up to seventh position on the log with 13 points, a baker’s dozen that they have been able to pull from a possible 21.
In the Scottish Premiership, Ikpeazu opened his account for the season in 3-2 at home for Heart of Midlothian in the 61st minute in their clash against Motherwell, as he headed home an effort that had earlier been saved by the goalkeeper.
In Greece, Akpom opened the scoring for PAOK as they claimed a 3-2 win against Atromitos at Stadio Peristeriou, as he netted his second goal in as many games in the Greek Super League, while second-tier action in Denmark saw Samson Iyede Onomigho strike in the 13th minute of BK Fremad Amager’s 2-1 loss to Viborg in the Danish First Division.
In Norway’s top-flight, Samuel Adegbenro struck after 53 minutes to help Rosenborg register a 3-1 win against Lillestrom, who had Ifeanyi Matthew in their starting line-up, while Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare netted his second goal of the season in the 65th minute before he was replaced on 88 by Valmiera FK, who conceded an equalizer n the fourth minute of stoppage time in a 2-2 draw with BFC Daugavpils.
