Rohr Turns Attention Of AFCON 2021 Qualifiers

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that he has put last Tuesday’s international friendly against Ukraine behind him, as he has now turned his focus fully on preparing his tactics for the start of the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.

Although a strong hit has already emerged that the Eagles will play at least two international friendlies before then, Rohr interjected that it would then mean they have to take on African teams, not another European opposition, as it was last week in Dnipro.

With that view in mind, the Franco-German tactician has enjoined officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to line up friendlies against African opposition next month, in order to help him prepare well to tango Benin Republic at the start of the AFCON 2012 qualifiers in November.

The Eagles will then take on Lesotho in their second match of the qualifiers, also in November, but, while Rohr says he prefers to play against an African team next month, he pleaded with the NFF to allow the game take place in Europe to enable his players easily gather together in camp, as they did for last Tuesday’s game away to Ukraine.

Rohr stated: “We saw already in the last window that a lot of teams played in Europe and it was easy to gather their players. We love our fans back home but we also need all the players to be on ground to enable us to plan ahead of the Benin Republic clash in November

“Now it’s time to focus on the AFCON qualifiers. The game against Ukraine has gone and the boys did very well in my opinion. Next month we have two possible windows and I think it will be good for us to have an African opponent because of the qualifiers in November.”
